Religion has been under fire for some time, the attacks have become more numerous in recent history. The recent comments of Chic-Fil-A owner Dan Cathy about his views on marriage are a perfect example. When asked about his stance on marriage Cathy said “guilty as charged” for supporting, what he called the “biblical definition” of marriage as between a man and a woman.
“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that,”
The guy is a Christian, his restaurant is closed on Sundays, and he believes in the biblical definition of marriage. What a shocker! Immediately the liberal media went into action, portraying Cathy as “anti-gay”. I must have missed the part where Cathy made these anti gay statements, all I saw was where he supports the biblical definition of marriage. He donates money to pro-family and Christian organizations, like the Family Research Council, and the Marriage and Family Foundation, which the liberal media paints as anti-gay as well. Your average Christian group does not run around endorsing gay marriage, true, but does that make them anti gay? What’s wrong with supporting a man and a woman being married?
Boston’s mayor Thomas Menino jumped on the band wagon stating “Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion, If they need licenses in the city, it will be very difficult — unless they open up their policies,” Hold the phone, now Dan Cathy is discriminating against gays? I must have missed that part too!!
Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel hinted strongly that he was prepared to join Ald. Joe Moreno (1st) in blocking Chick-fil-A from opening its first Chicago store in Logan Square. They cited Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy’s public opposition to gay marriage. Public opposition? Did I miss that too? I should pay better attention, all I saw was that he supports the biblical definition of marriage. Then, after being asked about whether Chic-Fil-A should be allowed to expand into Chicago, Emanuel said, “Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago values. They’re not respectful of our residents, our neighbors and our family members. And if you’re going to be part of the Chicago community, you should reflect Chicago values. So now, if I want to sell chicken sandwiches in Chicago I need to support men marrying men and women marrying women??? Maybe you should focus more on the violence in your city, and less on what Dan Cathy’s position on marriage is Rahm, since there has been over 320 murders there this year. Do you think that may be a more constructive use of your time and mayoral powers???
So then San Francisco mayor Edwin M. Lee tweeted : “Very disappointed #ChickFilA doesn’t share San Francisco’s values & strong commitment to equality for everyone.”
His next tweet stated : “Closest #ChickFilA to San Francisco is 40 miles away & I strongly recommend that they not try to come any closer.”
Really Ed??? You are going to “strongly recommend” that Chic-Fil-A stay away from San Francisco because their owner is a Christian???
The LA Times posted a headline saying “Is Chick-fil-A anti-gay marriage? ‘Guilty as charged,’ leader says”. That is not even what the man said! He said he supports marriage between a man and a woman!
A report from LGBT advocacy group Equality Matters concluded that Chick-fil-A donated more than $3 million between 2003 and 2009 to Christian groups that oppose homosexuality. Duh, Christians support the definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman, what a surprise!
But why is it that by supporting your religious views on marriage, you have suddenly become anti-gay? I’m not anti-gay, and I view marriage as between a man and a woman. Gay rights activists have just pushed a little too hard on this one. And these elected officials have done nothing more than give America a preview of what’s to come should Obama win another term. Christians will be demonized and persecuted, and their businesses closed or not allowed the permits they need to operate. We are not there yet Rahm, Ed, and Thomas, America is still a place where tyrants such as you cannot punish a man for his religious views. As far as that goes you cannot use your office to punish speech of any kind. Your socialism is showing, you better tuck that back in!
I hope that everyone sees the need to vote! This is exactly the kind of thing our founders seen as a threat to our Republic, as liberty loving, free men and women, it is our duty to protect America from enemies of liberty, enemies which grow stronger each day.
